The City of San Angelo held a joint special workshop on October 27, 2026, with city council, development corporation and board representatives to launch work on a new comprehensive plan. The city’s planning team and Olsson Consulting Team described a 16–18-month process covering land use and growth, transportation and a new thoroughfare plan, economic development, parks and open space, utilities, housing and fiscal impacts. The process is supported by the City, the development corporation and a Texas General Land Office grant. The presenter also noted that the City has received more than $60 million in grants for various community projects; that amount was not identified as funding for this plan alone.

Participants discussed public engagement, existing conditions and community priorities, including downtown and riverfront preservation and revitalization, flooding, infrastructure needs, housing affordability, and growth near Goodfellow and other areas. No procurement award, contract amount, vendor selection vote, or spending motion was reported; the consultant’s work was presented as part of the planning process already underway.
