The City of Burlington, NC Historic Preservation Commission met on October 13, 2026. The commission unanimously approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for Patrick Duncan’s work at 610 Peele Street, to be supported by a VA disabled-veterans grant. The work includes installing a six-foot fence, repairing the brick walkway using existing bricks where possible, paving the gravel driveway with colored concrete for safety, and other described repairs. Staff recommended approval subject to the design standards and required permits. No contract award, vendor selection, or project cost was stated.

The commission discussed a proposed historic exhibit about the Paramount Theater renovation, including six interpretive panels and possible use of tourism development funds or a Certified Local Government (CLG) grant. The theater project’s existing budget was described as exhausted; city funding may be needed to install panels before the building opens, while grant funding and reimbursement options remain under consideration. No funding decision or procurement motion was made. The commission also reviewed CLG training requirements and discussed possible advocacy regarding proposed federal changes to Section 106 review.
