The City of Rock Island Historic Preservation Commission met on October 28, 2026. Staff reported that the city received a Certified Local Government (CLG) grant and issued an RFP for a historic resources and marketing and interpretation plan. Proposals are due November 16 at 4 p.m.; the commission is expected to review the consultant selection and recommend an award to City Council, with council consideration planned for December 14. No consultant or contract award was made at this meeting. Staff also reported that comments on the draft historic design guidelines are expected, and that the guidelines will be available digitally; printing was discussed but no decision or funding was approved.
A Church of Peace representative requested help restoring a vandalized historic window and described roof-related plaster damage. The commission noted it has no funds to distribute and offered to connect the church with Economic Development staff to explore whether existing programs could apply. Members appointed subcommittees to review landmark applications for City Hall and the County Office Building, and approved prior meeting minutes and a proposed meeting schedule. The Centennial Bridge was discussed, including competing design and cost claims, but no procurement action was taken.
