The ESASD School Board’s Family Engagement Transition Workshop on October 28, 2026, was an informational webinar led by the district’s pupil services department with representatives from Pennsylvania’s Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) and Carbon-Monroe-Pike MHDS/Office of Developmental Programs (ODP). Presenters explained transition planning for students with disabilities, which begins at age 14 in Pennsylvania and addresses postsecondary education or training, employment, independent living, and community participation. They described how school IEP planning coordinates with adult-service agencies and emphasized that adult services require eligibility and are not an entitlement like school services.
OVR outlined pre-employment transition services for eligible students ages 14–21, including career exploration, work readiness, self-advocacy, and work-based learning, as well as its referral and assessment process. ODP representatives discussed eligibility requirements, supports coordination, waiver services, waiting lists and prioritization, limited county funding, and planning ahead for graduation; they noted that some services may be available before graduation. No contracts, vendor selections, procurement actions, budget approvals, or votes were identified. The session included audience questions, with the transcript ending during a question about services for a student.
