The Montgomery County Council Economic Development Committee held a work session on the county’s Economic Development Strategy on November 5, 2026 (the meeting metadata is dated November 6). The committee reviewed proposed edits for submission to the County Executive-elect, whose recommendations are due by January 15, with a further Council discussion planned. The edits included clarifying target-industry language, assigning initiative leads, and revising “Scale Montgomery” to identify near-term work that can proceed without a significant new resource infusion; a contractor may be considered for later implementation, but no contractor selection or purchase was made. Members also discussed whether the Federal Workforce Career Center effort should continue beyond its one-time funding, and agreed to retain the initiative while adding federal contractors to the population it addresses.

For place-based economic development, members supported clarifying that county government would lead coordination and help identify practical actions, partnerships, grants, incentives, and budget and policy needs. The committee also discussed infrastructure funding and TIFs, urban-district efforts, and adding tourism and agriculture-related resources to the strategy. Staff will update the plan and highlight revisions ahead of the November 17 session. No contract awards, procurement approvals, spending motions, or votes were identified.
