Chesterfield County community forum on data centers, held October 28, 2026, at Brightpoint Community College. County officials, Dominion Energy, Google, and other data-center representatives discussed electricity and water demand, grid capacity, environmental impacts, construction oversight, noise, jobs, and community investment. Dominion described its connection process, including customer-funded engineering studies and deposits for equipment, and said transmission and broader grid projects undergo PJM and State Corporation Commission review. The utility said it manages connection timing to protect reliability and that data-center infrastructure costs are assigned through regulated rates; a take-or-pay requirement is scheduled to begin January 1. No contract awards, procurement motions, or votes were reported.

Discussion also covered community and policy issues. Google cited up to $10 million in energy-affordability funding across the region and a proposed $500,000 contribution for parks and recreation support near the Browning Williamson Conservation Area; the companies also discussed workforce partnerships and possible community councils. County staff said data centers are now conditional uses under an amended ordinance and that the current Board has indicated little interest in additional facilities. Residents questioned tax rates, environmental enforcement, NDAs, and community-benefits commitments. Google said it would generally stop seeking NDAs, while no binding community-benefits agreement was made during the forum.
