🚨 Public Safety ⚡ Energy & Utilities Emergency Response Physical Infrastructure

The City of Irvine’s El Niño Preparedness Town Hall was held October 27, 2026. City officials, the National Weather Service, Irvine Ranch Water District, Orange County Fire Authority, and Southern California Edison discussed the uncertain outlook for a potentially strong El Niño and preparations for possible heavy rain, flooding, coastal impacts, and wind damage. The National Weather Service emphasized that forecasts indicate an elevated chance of above-average precipitation, but timing and severity remain uncertain. City staff described drainage and infrastructure inspections, storm-response staffing, coordination with partner agencies, and public alert and reporting channels. Residents were advised to prepare supplies, check insurance coverage, clear gutters and drains, and plan for power outages and evacuation needs.

The city and fire authority described free sandbag availability: up to 10 pre-filled bags per household at the City’s Operations Support Facility, with empty bags and sand available at designated fire stations while supplies last. Residents can use the Access Irvine app to report fallen trees and blocked drains, and sign up for AlertOC and Southern California Edison outage alerts. No contract awards, bids, procurement decisions, budget allocations, or spending-related votes were identified.
