The Caldwell County Board of Commissioners meeting was held October 26, 2026. The board approved the consent agenda, which included budget revisions accepting $473,784 in state Emergency Watershed Protection grant funding for streambank restoration and $2,577 in Maternal and Child Health block grant funds; neither requires a county match. Other revisions included $9,824 for the county’s share of Forest Service salary increases and $169,554 in state pass-through funding for $1,750 bonuses to 90 full-time sworn law-enforcement employees, with no county match. The agenda also authorized two 911-fund equipment purchases for the new Pleasant Hill Road center, in the amounts of $47,754 and $151,747. A library endowment draw of $2,880 was approved to support courthouse parking under a 20-year lease arrangement with First Baptist Church; the stated county cost is up to $16,500. The consent agenda also included accepting a John Deere Gator at no cost to the county for emergency-management use, and updates allowing the Western Piedmont Council of Governments to serve as the county’s official housing authority. No vendor contract award or bid approval was reported.

The board received updates on veterans services, hazardous-waste collection, public health, and Social Services. Facility Services reported that the hazardous-waste event served about 300 cars and collected various hazardous materials and electronics; Republic Services, EcoFlow, and public-sector partners assisted. The county plans to propose funding for another event in next year’s budget and, if approved, seek bids, with a target date of October 2027. Public Health also presented accreditation-related policy reviews, including a new Board of Health training policy that was included in the approved consent agenda. The veterans-services report cited a $90 million return in VA benefits to county veterans in 2025; no related purchasing action was identified.
