🚨 Public Safety 🏥 Healthcare Grants & Funding

At its October 27, 2026 regular meeting, the Summersville City Council approved a $20,000 allocation from opioid settlement funds to support the Police and Peers program for one year. The funding will be provided to the county and routed through the Day Reporting Center, where Jason of West Virginia Sober Living works with people experiencing addiction and homelessness to connect them with recovery services, transportation, clothing, and other resources. The grant that previously supported the program had ended. Staff cited 156 people connected to rehabilitation through the program and said seven more were lined up; the stated overall program cost was approximately $64,000–$65,000. The motion to approve the city contribution passed. The discussion also referenced county funding, but the transcript is unclear whether the county commitment is for one year or $25,000 annually for five years. Staff offered to provide progress figures during the funding period.

No vendor selection or procurement contract was considered. Other business included approval of the prior meeting minutes, community festival and fire-safety announcements, and a motion to enter executive session.
