The City of Independence, Missouri Planning Commission met October 27, 2026. The commission approved the consent agenda 7–0. In case 26-113, a city-initiated corrective rezoning from I-1 industrial to R-6 single-family residential, commissioners voted 5–2 to exclude three vacant properties—addresses transcribed as 1001, 1007, and 1019—from the rezoning. The amended rezoning then passed 7–0. Staff said the broader correction would address legal nonconformities affecting existing homes and refinancing. Case 26-114, a corrective rezoning of 150 East 46th Street South to R-12, was approved 7–0 to support rehabilitation of a fire-damaged duplex.
The commission also approved short-term rental case 26-490 for 16417 East 28th Street South. Staff clarified that approval does not require annual reapplication, but operators must renew their business license, remit transient guest tax monthly, maintain a local contact, and report changes to that contact; complaints may lead to a revocation hearing. No procurement, contract awards, purchasing decisions, or budget allocations were identified.
