The Meridian School Board’s regular meeting on October 7, 2026, included approval of a request-for-qualifications (RFQ) process to recruit an interim superintendent search firm. The board authorized the superintendent to begin preparing the RFQ; the draft will return to the board for input before it is posted. No firm or contract amount was selected. The board also approved changes to the highly capable student screening program, with the new assessment planned for February; staff said the test would be ordered, but no cost was provided.
The board received an update on the Washington Early Learning Center project, now estimated at $11 million rather than $12 million after Whatcom County withdrew a proposed $1 million contribution for office and classroom space. The revised design may lose approximately 1,000–1,500 square feet, and the district is seeking federal funding support. Staff also discussed formula-based state and federal education-grant programs and a local association’s annual employee grants of up to $400. No construction contract award or other vendor selection was reported.
