The October 15, 2026, VISD community forum presented the bond planning committee’s recommendation for a potential 2027 school facilities bond. The district said it had solicited bids and hired Integrus Architecture, McKinstry, and SPV to support a required 10-year facilities plan. The recommended bond totals $159.4 million, with an estimated tax impact of $1.99 per $1,000 of assessed property value. Proposed uses include $11 million for safety and accessibility, $107 million for new construction and major renovation—including a new middle school and a dual-use high school physical education building—and about $40 million for building-system upgrades, energy efficiency, solar and battery storage, field improvements, and other facility needs. The district also cited approximately $10 million in potential state assistance, subject to eligibility and matching requirements.

No bond vote or contract award occurred at the forum. The school board was expected to consider the recommendation in November, with a possible bond resolution in early December and a February ballot if approved. Discussion focused on the aging McMurray facility, the proposed middle-school replacement, affordability, enrollment, construction-cost escalation, and the distinction between bond-funded capital work and general-fund spending on staffing. Community members raised possible future uses for McMurray, including childcare, community and social services, and career and technical education; any reuse or leasing arrangement remains exploratory. Participants also emphasized the need for clear public communication and sustainable operating and security plans.
