26 09 09 Board Video Study Session

The South Whidbey School District Board held a special reorganization business meeting and study session on September 10, 2026. By roll-call votes, the board selected Director Green Heron as legislative representative and Director Nader as WIAA representative. The study session included professional development on effective board governance, oversight, and balancing trustee and delegate roles, followed by discussion of board goals informed by the prior retreat, board self-assessment, and alignment with district and superintendent goals. No new goals were formally adopted during the discussion.

The board also discussed protocols for upcoming community meetings, including ways to hear community perspectives, establish clear norms, keep discussion focused and civil, and address Open Public Meetings Act concerns. Members considered using the first community meeting to ask residents what would make the meetings valuable and discussed drawing on practices from other districts. No procurement activity, contract or vendor decisions, spending approvals, or budget allocations were identified.
