The Washougal School Board work session on September 8, 2026, included a capital-projects update and discussion of a possible elementary-school consolidation. District staff reported that the turf portion of a previously board-approved, approximately $1 million project is complete and in use; the track is nearly finished, with drainage corrections and striping still pending. Other completed work included converting West High School courts for tennis and pickleball, adapting courts at Cape Horn-Skye for futsal, and refinishing gym floors. A change order addressed oversized outside-air dampers as part of building controls work, which staff said may improve climate control and reduce operating costs. No new contract award or procurement vote was identified during the session.
Looking ahead, staff described a planned 2027 high-school chiller replacement, with a Department of Commerce grant expected to cover a substantial portion of the cost and support a more energy-efficient unit. A city-led stormwater project associated with J Street improvements is also being developed with a Department of Ecology grant; the district expects to bring a stormwater-management agreement to the board for approval. Staff said a contract for adding roofs to the high-school baseball and softball dugouts is expected to come before the board this fall, with RNC Construction Management assisting with planning and engineering. The board also reviewed a consolidation process and upcoming community hearings, but made no decision; modernization funding and future budget planning were discussed in that context.
