The Meridian School Board’s October 21, 2026 regular meeting included district assessment and special education presentations, enrollment and financial updates, and discussion of facility use. The board approved the consent agenda, including revised October 7 minutes, and voted to approve policies 1630 (superintendent evaluation) and 6600 (transportation). No contract award or procurement vote was identified. During discussion of facility-use policy 4260, board members and staff reviewed rental and custodial charges, including examples where nonprofit after-school programs could incur substantial fees. They discussed clarifying how district- or PTA-sponsored programs are classified and whether the policy or application form should be revised; no change was adopted. Such clarification could affect future access and costs for community partners using school facilities.

Budget updates included a transportation vehicle fund balance of $455,000, one bus already on order, and consideration of ordering another; buses were estimated at about $200,000 each, with accessible special-education buses identified as a need. The district reported $3.205 million in its capital projects fund, including $739,000 associated with the technology levy, $1.132 million allocated to the Watcom Early Learning Center, and $205,000 in restricted SEPA mitigation fees. Facility repair needs were estimated at nearly $2 million, and staff said they would pursue grants. The district is also working with Construction Services Group (CSG) to put a contract in place for support on the Early Learning Center project. Financial reporting noted that the district continues to fund school health professionals after a $150,000 grant ended, using an ESD arrangement costing $50,000 per professional at three main buildings.
