Red Clay Schools held a community town hall on October 28, 2026, to review its proposed secondary-school restructuring and attendance-zone changes. District staff described a plan to reduce three comprehensive high schools to two—Alexis I. duPont and John Dickinson—and convert Thomas McKean High School into a career and college-focused Innovation Center. The proposal would realign attendance zones to improve feeder patterns and balance enrollment, expand access to more than 20 career and technical education pathways, and strengthen advanced coursework, dual enrollment, and extracurricular offerings. The district recommended an August 2028 launch. The board had approved moving the proposal forward in July 2025, then postponed it in April 2026 and requested additional planning, including transition options for current McKean students; staff said the materials addressing the board’s conditions were posted, but the conditions had not all been executed. No vote was taken at this town hall, and staff said there is no current alternative plan if the board rejects the proposal.

Community members raised concerns about transportation between campuses, student supervision and scheduling, students with disabilities and mobility needs, continuity of relationships and school communities, athletics, and whether community feedback would change the proposal. District staff said transportation and transition logistics are being developed and that student engagement and equity-related work is underway. The meeting identified no contract awards, procurements, vendor selections, or spending approvals; no specific procurement-related budget allocation was discussed.
