The City of Sherwood Planning Commission held a work session on October 27, 2026. Staff reported that the City Council had hired First Forty Feet for a feasibility study of Old Town Site D, assessing economic viability, site layouts, and development partnerships; the study was expected to wrap up by year-end. Consultant 3J is supporting the state-required housing capacity analysis, with a joint work session scheduled for November 3. Staff also previewed a transportation system plan update session. No contract awards, purchasing decisions, spending amounts, or procurement-related votes were reported.
The main discussion concerned potential amendments to the City’s tree code. Commissioners discussed state requirements for clear and objective residential standards, whether to offer an optional discretionary review path, minimum preservation requirements for significant trees, canopy targets and incentives, and a possible voluntary heritage-tree program. Views differed on the discretionary path and how much existing tree cover should be preserved; no code changes were adopted. Staff will refine potential approaches based on the feedback, and commissioners may send additional comments by email before the topic returns for further review.
