Special Stafford County Public Schools School Board meeting, October 27, 2026: The board held a public hearing on the 2027–2028 school calendar, with community members speaking in favor of retaining religious and cultural holidays and others raising concerns about instructional time and calendar consistency. Members discussed two calendar versions and the goal of increasing instructional days from 172 to 180 (52 additional instructional hours), as well as effects on students, staff availability, substitute coverage, and families. The substitute motion for version three was rejected; the board approved version two, which retains religious and cultural holidays, by a 6–1 vote. Board members said calendar guidelines and broader community input would be discussed at a future retreat. No procurement, contract award, or spending decision was identified.
The board also voted to convene a closed meeting to consult legal counsel regarding specified Stafford Circuit Court litigation, then certified that the closed-session discussion was limited to the matters stated in the motion. The meeting adjourned.
