The Los Lunas Schools Board of Education meeting on October 27, 2026, approved consent items that included an amended agreement with UNM’s College of Education and Human Sciences, renewal of the Future Focused Education graduation re-engagement internship program for 2026–27, and a New Mexico capital outlay grant agreement (project number A26K3335, transcribed inconsistently) for two district buses. The bus agreement is a step toward a future purchase: the district said additional budget and board approvals will follow. The grant amount and bus purchase price were not stated. The Future Focused Education renewal passed 4–1; the NMPED-funded literacy champion assurance, which provides a $1,000 stipend, passed 5–0. The board also approved the remaining consent items, including the UNM amendment.
Facilities staff reported HVAC replacements being coordinated at several schools, water-heater and playground work, contracted fire-hydrant repairs, and perimeter-security improvements. For the A.M. Parish school project, drawings had received the required review and the district expects to proceed toward bidding; no bid or contract award was made. In budget discussions, staff reported transportation expenses moving into a deficit position. The board voted 5–0 to develop a resolution urging full funding of school transportation and related costs for the 2027 legislative session, and voted 5–0 to appoint a board member to help the superintendent and legal counsel draft it. Special-education enrollment growth and possible future staffing needs were discussed, but no related spending action was taken.
