The Osceola School District Board of Education held a facilities and real estate workshop on October 27, 2026. Staff reported approximately $567 million in active facilities projects, down from roughly $1 billion six months earlier as projects close out. Major capital work included $54 million spent on critical HVAC replacements, another $20 million of HVAC projects planned for the current school year, and fire-alarm, cabling, access-control, intercom, and other school upgrades. Staff are selecting engineers for the Dearwood Elementary HVAC retrofit and expect to bring the environmental-center boardwalk construction contract to the Board in November. The presentation also reviewed completed and ongoing school construction and renovations, including a classroom expansion at Voyager K-8 and a pool project at a new high school. Facilities capital work is funded primarily through the local half-cent sales tax; staff cited about $40 million in annual revenue against roughly $80 million in annual needs. No contract award or spending vote was recorded at the workshop.
Staff proposed updating the 2013 interlocal agreement with the County and the cities of St. Cloud and Kissimmee to clarify coordination on school sites, development, and facility requirements; discussions were planned to begin the following week, with a goal of completing the update in the next quarter, subject to partner agreement. The Board and staff also discussed how development, charter schools, and accessory dwelling units affect school planning and impact fees. Staff described the current ADU approach as temporary pending a future impact-fee study and said the issue should be monitored; no formal Board action was taken.
