The NCLUSD Special Board Meeting on October 26, 2026, included a workshop on the district’s 2026–27 General Fund budget. Staff reviewed historical revenues, expenses, reserves, and restricted and unrestricted funding, noting that the projected reserve is below the board’s 8% policy target. Budgeted areas include salaries and benefits, curriculum and software licenses, technology services, transportation, and school-site materials. The district projects $1.8 million for required maintenance and received approximately $900,000 through state special-education funding equalization. Staff also discussed one-time funding, including student-support and professional-development block grants, and California Community Schools Partnership Program funding of about $765,000 in the first year, followed by $1.3 million annually for the remaining six years, as clarified during discussion.
The superintendent recommended stabilizing the budget through attrition by reassessing vacant positions before refilling them. Board members discussed the need for a longer-term plan as temporary funds expire, and staff said the December first-interim budget update would provide a revised multiyear outlook. No procurement awards, vendor selections, or purchasing approvals were identified. The board did approve, by a 5–0 vote in closed session, readmission in a confidential case effective October 27; this was not a procurement action.
