The El Cajon City Council’s regular meeting on October 27, 2026, approved a one-year, $100,000 pilot for four mobile speed-warning cameras, funded from General Fund reserves. The cameras will issue warnings—not citations—to drivers traveling at least 20 mph over the limit, with locations selected using speeding and collision data. The contract was described as secured with a vendor whose name is transcribed as “Altiment/Ultimate.” Council also approved staff’s fiscal-year 2026–27 first-quarter recommendations, including a net $25.6 million in appropriation increases: eight new capital improvement projects totaling $17.1 million and amendments to 15 existing projects, primarily for sewer, transportation, and related infrastructure. The largest General Fund item was $2 million for sidewalk maintenance; other amendments included $25,000 for fire-department medical training and $65,000 to continue the state-mandated edible-food-recovery program. Both actions passed by unanimous votes of members present.

The finance director reported preliminary FY2025–26 revenues of $103.4 million and expenditures of $107.9 million, resulting in a $4.4 million use of reserves, better than anticipated. In council activity reports, a $25 million grant for the regional advanced water-purification project and forthcoming Bradley Bridge widening were noted. Staff also said a future report would present policy options for addressing sidewalk repairs. The meeting included public comment and a commendation for the retiring fire chief, but no other procurement decisions were identified.
