The DeKalb Central Schools Board of Education held its regular meeting on October 27, 2026. The board approved school-zone safety improvements on County Road 427: two solar-powered flashing beacons and signage, with equipment and signage quoted at just over $14,000 to be paid by the district; the county highway department will assist with installation. The board also approved an 8% increase in health insurance premiums. It approved an expanded retirement-plan partnership with Appletree Asset Management to consolidate services for the district’s 403(b) and 401(a) plans, and separately approved leasing Appletree office space in the district’s Tech House for $458 per month, approximately $5,500 annually. The board approved posting a Chief of Special Education position as the district prepares to operate its own special education programming.
Grant updates included a received and accepted $75,000 Operating to Learn planning grant, a $25,000 grant for secondary robotics competitions and supplies, and approval of a recurring $250 Parents Friends Thriving Grant for classroom supplies. The meeting also recognized student-run business activities and school achievements; donations supporting school supplies, student needs, and extracurricular programs were reported. The board passed the amended agenda and consent agenda. No vendor bid or construction contract award was discussed; the Appletree partnership and lease, safety equipment, insurance premiums, and grant funding were the main spending-related actions.
