The Merced City School District regular board meeting was held October 27, 2026. The board unanimously approved a Simply Equation contract to provide twice-weekly academic enrichment for up to 30 students in grades 2–5 at Shehi Elementary; the contract amount is not to exceed $62,382.53. Trustees also received a presentation on a proposed BusRight student transportation system for routing, bus check-in/out, and parent notifications. Its stated cost is $47,500 per year, with a roughly three-year contract term; no approval was taken, and staff said they expect to bring the contract back at the next meeting. The ArtBeat Collective presented its spring 2027 proposal, with a possible renewal to return at a future meeting as a consent item. Trustees discussed participation and attendance, and requested more information on program results and costs.
Trustees scrutinized after-school and vendor programming, citing approximately $35 million in ELOP spending over recent years and requesting clearer outcome measures and unique, non-overlapping participation data, including subgroup results. The quarterly investment reports were informational only; the presentation cited a 4.04% June portfolio return. Other discussion covered employee contract negotiations, requests to cap PE classes at 40 students, anti-bullying efforts, and student achievement and attendance. No other procurement approvals were identified.
