The Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board held a special meeting on October 27, 2026. The board received an annual report on voter-approved funding: the M&O override spent and budgeted $22.2 million, the district additional assistance override is capped at $14.5 million (with spending near $14 million), and the district reported completion of the $229 million 2016 bond program. The board also reviewed districtwide technology spending, estimated at $17.5 million in FY2026—about $10 million for equipment, $6.5 million for software, and $1 million for repairs, maintenance, and telecommunications. The analysis estimated annualized growth of 11.5% across identified technology spending and 23.6% in core software, with caveats that historical coding and AI-assisted categorization may omit or misclassify some technology costs.
Procurement discussion included upcoming device purchases: approximately $1.6 million for Dell student devices, $1 million for staff devices, and $2,287,729 for Chromebooks. Staff said Dell had announced a 15% price increase, so orders were being placed promptly to avoid a potential increase of more than $600,000. The district cited a decision not to continue a nearly $250,000 districtwide Discovery Education agreement after reviewing usage and teacher feedback, with site-level purchasing considered where needed. No contract award or procurement vote was taken. The board supported further review of software licensing, utilization, redundancy, and total costs, including an audit committee review, and asked staff to develop a consolidated technology policy and regulations emphasizing purposeful, reduced screen use, particularly for younger students, while retaining appropriate flexibility and exceptions. The agenda was approved unanimously, 4–0.
