The Municipal District of Taber Regular Meeting of Council was held October 27, 2026. Council authorized administration to negotiate a lease with Cypress Land Services, acting for Telus, for a proposed 120-foot cellular tower on MD land and authorized the company to pursue development permits with the Town of Taber. Council also directed administration to gather further information on six MD-owned quarter sections being considered for surplus designation and potential sale, conduct gravel investigations on five specified quarters, and include gravel-resource investigation in future preliminary land-disposal reviews. The related discussion raised how investigation costs should be handled; no sale of the parcels was approved at this meeting.

Procurement- and spending-related actions also included approval of a $15,000 annual contribution, for up to three years ($45,000 maximum) from general municipal operating reserves, to support the Canadian Premier Food Corridor partnership. Council approved a $1,800 in-kind donation for the Taber Archers and Bowhunters’ event and donations of $6,600 to the Vauxhall District Chamber of Commerce and $5,000 to the Taber High School Rodeo, funded from recreation operating reserves. Taber and District Housing Foundation reported that its renovation plan was estimated to exceed $28 million and that it is considering a new-build option targeted at a $27 million budget; it plans to seek grants and financing and to issue an RFP for a construction manager, but council made no funding or project-award decision. Council also approved first reading of a new animal-control bylaw and adopted a traffic-control and signage policy; revisions to the Texas-gate policy were requested for return to council.
