The Preston County Board of Education meeting was held October 26, 2026, at Aurora School. No new contract awards or procurement bids were approved during the meeting; the contract-review agenda item had no submissions. The superintendent reported that snow-plowing and Aurora retaining-wall bids had been approved at the prior meeting, HVAC work at South Preston was underway, and the Tunnelton-Denver demolition RFP was with Thrasher Engineering. The district was also arranging an assessment and potential replacement quote for the soccer-field/track turf, installed around 2011–2012. Aurora staff reported spending more than $2,000 on playground mulch and asked whether playground upkeep should be a county responsibility; no spending decision followed. Staff also raised concerns about limited iPad availability in kindergarten and first grade, but the board took no purchasing action.
The board approved the submitted schedule of checks, budget journal entries 120 and 121 (for a donation and state special education), carryover entries reallocating unspent FY26 funds to FY27, and school-support-organization applications for Aurora, Brewon, and Central Preston. Members also discussed improving student access to Knights Academy and Squires transportation, and requested a follow-up on the CTE school store. The high tunnel at Aurora was reported ready for pickup, supported by community contributions; staff were working on a farm-to-school grant. A grant-funded running club was reported to receive about $300 annually. No procurement-policy changes or new purchasing authorizations were identified.
