The LaPorte County Community Corrections Advisory Board met October 26, 2026. The director reported September 30 balances of $90,428.90 in the IDOC grant fund and $46,959.74 in the CTP fund, and discussed reduced state Department of Correction funding and the importance of getting the county’s J-RAC committee functioning properly to support future funding decisions. Juvenile Services reported that it is hiring part- and full-time staff and has received the first phase of a noncompetitive Lilly Endowment grant, which funds consultation for a potential capital project. A later phase could provide nearly $1 million, depending on the center’s revenue; priority needs identified include equipment and security cameras, with window replacement as a possible additional project. No vendor or contract award was made.
The board approved a motion to support Community Corrections bringing a request to the commissioners and county council to explore adding a medical professional at its facility, where staff currently distribute medications without on-site medical personnel. A contracted nurse or other arrangement may be considered, but no funding source or cost was determined; possible sources raised included opioid settlement and misdemeanor funds. The board also heard that Problem Solving Court had lost a case manager position and received no additional funding during the reporting period, while continuing its work. The agenda and prior minutes were approved, and the next meeting was scheduled for December 14, 2026.
