The City of Detroit Board of Zoning Appeals meeting on October 26, 2026, approved two land-use requests after reaching quorum. In BZA case 2026-00049, the board approved Alexander Bryce Consulting’s request to expand the legal nonconforming junkyard use at 9101 West Fort Street and 9202 Stone Street, including an accessory building for a mobile crusher and outdoor vehicle storage. Board members raised dust and noise concerns; the applicant described plans to contain crushing activity and manage dust, with further review and permitting by city departments still required. The board also deferred two other cases to November 16 because a proper quorum was not available for those matters and approved the prior meeting minutes with a correction to one member’s recorded vote.
In BZA case 2026-00032, the board approved Terrence Thomas’s request to modify nonconforming scrap-processing operations at 9100 and 9200 John Cronk Street, relocating outdoor processing away from nearby homes and adding screening and other mitigation measures. The board then separately granted a variance allowing material piles at 9100 John Cronk to reach a maximum of 50 feet, above the screening-wall height; the applicant cited site constraints and operational needs. The applicant also described a proposed nuisance-minimization plan and a consent agreement being finalized with the city, plus an approximately $800,000 landscaping plan and acquisition of nearby parcels for green space. These were zoning approvals, not procurement awards; no government purchasing or contract award was identified.
