The City of Costa Mesa Planning Commission met on October 26, 2026, and approved two land-use items, each by a 7–0 vote. The Commission granted a six-month extension, through May 3, 2027, for the conditional use permit for a proposed cannabis storefront at 2490 Newport Boulevard. The extension allows more time to complete plan check and begin construction; discussion covered outstanding plan corrections, the applicant’s construction budget having increased, and an estimated $3,500 extension fee. The Commission also approved a conditional use permit for the Khalil Gibran Museum and Library at 1901 Newport Boulevard, including daytime courtyard programming and limits on events and operating hours. Staff noted that events outside the approved limits would require a special-event permit, which costs $425 and generally takes two weeks to a month to process. A commissioner suggested adding museums to the city’s land-use matrix during a future code cleanup.
In departmental updates, staff reported that the City Council had approved zoning and general-plan actions, adopted the city’s first Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, and approved a conditional use permit for a group home. Staff also said the Council would consider a parcel map and surplus land declaration related to the Jamboree senior-living project, with the project hoping to close by year-end. No contracts, vendor selections, bid approvals, or other procurement activity were identified.
