🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure 🚨 Public Safety Grants & Funding Physical Infrastructure

At the October 26, 2026, regular meeting of the Minnetonka City Council, members approved a $357,500 contract to Minger Construction Companies for the Minnetonka Boulevard Lift Station Rehabilitation Project and authorized project expenditures up to the $630,000 budget without further council approval. The work will replace pumps, valves, controls, and electrical components, with fiber connectivity included in the project budget. The council also accepted a $2,876,516.60 FEMA SAFER grant to support hiring 12 full-time firefighters in early 2027, and approved a $966,000 U.S. Department of Justice Byrne grant for a replacement police records management system, covering the project’s full cost without local tax-levy funding. Consent items approved included 2027 property/liability and workers’ compensation insurance renewals; staff reported property premiums increased a little over 5%, while workers’ compensation premiums fell about $317,472 (36.1%). The council also approved 2027 traffic-safety grant agreements and other routine consent items.

The council received an update on the Green Line Extension, scheduled to open June 12, 2027; civil construction was reported complete, with systems testing and operational preparations continuing. It introduced, but did not adopt, a proposed 30-day pre-eviction notice ordinance and an ordinance amending certain city fees; the former was referred to the EDAC, with additional tenant and community outreach planned before further consideration. The council accepted the 2026 tax increment financing management report, which identified possible future district actions, and certified delinquent utility and false-alarm charges to Hennepin County. No additional contract awards were identified in the transit update.
