The City Council Transportation and Infrastructure Committee met on October 26, 2026. It recommended approval of a grant application seeking approximately $2 million for improvements along US 78 near Third Avenue South and Continental Gin, including a signalized access point, a new left-turn phase, sidewalk repairs, and on-street parking. The city would have no matching requirement but would be responsible for any cost overages; staff estimated potential overages at a few hundred thousand dollars. The project is intended to improve safety and access and support area redevelopment. The grant application had not yet been awarded, with announcements expected in late January or early February.

The committee also recommended council approval of an interlocal agreement with Jefferson County to pave the multilane portion of Rex Lake Road near Barber Motorsports Park. The project cost was stated as a little over $96,000, and partnering with the county was described as more cost-effective than the city completing the work later on its own. The committee approved the prior meeting minutes and recommended reappointment of a civil engineer to the BPA; no vendor selection or contract award was reported.
