The City of Mebane Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) meeting on October 27, 2026, approved the September 28 minutes. Members reviewed pedestrian and bicycle crash data—four pedestrian-related collisions reported in 2026, compared with five in 2024 and three in 2025—and discussed updating the bicycle and pedestrian plan to address safety and connectivity, including near the proposed hospital redevelopment and along priority corridors. Staff offered to draft plan updates for the next meeting and invited members to submit ideas. Potential amendments to development standards were discussed, including encouraging detached side paths on collector or nonresidential roads and improving links between existing and planned paths; no amendment was adopted.

Members also discussed possible e-bike and bicycle safety recommendations, including a 10-mph limit on shared-use or side paths, path markings, restrictions related to narrower pedestrian facilities, and battery safety standards. These were discussion items, not formal approvals. A potential state grant for a Mountain-to-Sea Trail connection and use of discretionary funds for path signage were mentioned, but no grant application, spending allocation, contract, or procurement action was approved. The committee also discussed transit-service outreach, community activities, and meeting scheduling.
