The Worcester Parks & Recreation Commission meeting on October 22, 2026, considered conceptual improvements for Chandler Hill Park and Newton Hill. For Chandler Hill, staff outlined potential playground expansion and new equipment, improved beach accessibility, lighting for the parking lot, basketball court and walkways, additional seating and bike parking, and possible changes to the restroom building. The commission discussed a splash pad, crosswalk safety, and maintenance of nearby wooded areas; staff said extensive clearing was beyond current resources. The item was filed for further discussion, with revised ideas expected at the November 5 meeting. No construction funding was identified, and staff said construction would close the facility for a summer.

The commission approved the Newton Hill conceptual master plan, Concept 3, with comments to be incorporated, including bike racks, seating, and perennial beds. The concept includes reoriented tennis courts with one additional court, a rebuilt basketball court, upgraded LED lighting, entrances and seating areas; costs and funding have not yet been determined, and staff said the design must be costed and considered in the capital improvement plan. The commission also approved a request to install a memorial sign at Indian Hill Park; the requesting group plans to fundraise for installation and take responsibility for maintenance and repairs, with details to be worked out with the administration. No contract awards, vendor selections, or purchasing approvals were identified.
