The City of Maricopa Planning and Zoning Commission met on October 26, 2026. No contract awards, purchasing decisions, budget allocations, or other procurement activity were identified. The commission approved TXT 26-03, a city-initiated zoning-code text amendment that clarifies the definition of tattoo establishments and makes parking-lot queuing requirements more flexible for smaller sites, including allowing a reduced setback when supported by an analysis accepted by the city engineer. It also approved CUP 26-08 for SBA Tower X LLC, on behalf of Walmart Stores Inc., to build an 83-foot stealth telecommunications tower at 41650 West Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. The tower is designed to accommodate at least three carriers, with additional capacity subject to structural review and future approvals; no contract value or spending amount was discussed.
The commission voted to forward a favorable recommendation for ZON 26-07, rezoning approximately 0.28 acres at Wilson Avenue and Hathaway Avenue from General Rural to Neighborhood Commercial with a Mixed Use Heritage Overlay, and for TXT 26-04, the city’s proposed nonresidential design guidelines; both are scheduled for City Council consideration. The commission discussed that the guidelines distinguish code requirements from recommendations and apply to formal development-review submittals. A resident also asked for city guidance on establishing a local laundromat, and staff announced a planned American Legion banner-program pilot, but neither item resulted in a procurement action or commission vote.
