The Town of Southington Town Council meeting was held October 26, 2026. Procurement and infrastructure discussions included the elementary school roof projects: the committee approved a $116,000 change for the Strong roof, received a $1,470 credit for unused decking, and declined Gold Seal Roofing’s $38,411.96 request for premium-time labor. It also approved $3,800 for agricultural services related to Hatton Elementary School and reported the Strong project was about $340,000 under budget. The council voted 9–0 to schedule a November 9 public hearing on proposed sewer ordinance changes that would add application and sewer-capacity fees to recover technical-review costs and help fund future infrastructure. A proposal for the town to take ownership of a developer-funded sewer force main for the Anthony Properties development was tabled 9–0 pending review of legal and procedural requirements, including questions about a public hearing and Planning and Zoning referral; no final approval was given.
The council received an update on a possible revised FEMA grant proposal for firefighter staffing, with financial scenarios still under review and no final decision. The Ordinance Committee also reported that a proposed fire-incident cost-recovery program could generate up to $245,000 annually; further review, including potential effects on residents’ insurance and a possible vendor service contract such as Fire Recovery USA, was planned before council consideration. Residents raised concerns about the town’s Flock camera contract and data privacy during public comment, but no related council action was taken. No contract award or vendor selection was identified.
