Vigo County’s October 26, 2026 budget workshop focused on the proposed 2027 county budget, staffing and raises, and the potential effect of county spending on school-facility funding. Council members debated the budget’s transparency and long-term sustainability. The financial adviser from Baker Tilly reviewed revenue, spending, and reserve projections, including an estimated general-fund ending balance of roughly $11–13 million after a discussed $2.1 million revenue adjustment, and warned that continued spending above revenues could substantially reduce reserves in later years. Members discussed differing compensation proposals, including a flat $4,000 increase and percentage raises, and the addition of county positions. The sheriff said he could need up to six additional jail staff depending on a proposed court arrangement, while the discussion noted that staffing figures had been added after the budget was advertised and were not based on a formal request for that full number.

The proposed budget passed on a 4–2 roll-call vote, with one council member absent. Members also discussed—but did not directly vote on—the school corporation’s Option 6.2 facilities proposal, which was described as requiring approximately $15 million upfront and $6 million annually for 20 years; some members warned that the county budget could limit its ability to contribute. Potential reductions or savings of about $1.1 million were identified in Community Crossings, demolition, and digitization of area-planning records, along with an estimated $250,000 in demolition-budget savings. No contract award, vendor selection, or solicitation was identified.
