At the Seymour Common Council meeting on October 26, 2026, the council approved two tax-abatement resolutions for major personal-property investments. Lannett Company LLC received approval, 6–0, for a 10-year abatement on $4.5 million in manufacturing equipment; the investment is expected to support retention of its 402-person workforce. Walmart Stores East LP received approval, 4–2, for a 10-year abatement on $87 million in logistical distribution equipment at its fulfillment center. Walmart reported 959 associates at the center and said the investment is intended to retain employees, with more than $2.1 million in projected taxes over the abatement period. The Walmart request drew public questions about automation, job retention, wages, and surveillance-related technology, but no surveillance policy action was taken.
The council also approved on first reading, 6–0, an ordinance authorizing a general-obligation bond program with a $2 million baseline to fund infrastructure improvements and city equipment, including an already-ordered fire engine and police-vehicle replacements—about five vehicles annually, or roughly 15 over three years. A related ordinance appropriating bond proceeds also passed first reading, 6–0. The Seymour Municipal Airport Authority’s 2027 budget, including a stated $1.2 million general fund, passed second reading, 6–0; the airport was described as self-funded. The council also passed 2027 salary ordinances and approved a first-reading rezoning, with no additional procurement action identified in those items.
