At its October 26, 2026 meeting, the Lincoln Park City Council considered several spending and procurement matters. The Fire Department presented a FEMA SAFER grant of up to $3.2 million to hire as many as 10 firefighter-paramedics over three years, with the city’s contribution capped at approximately $1.23 million. A resolution authorizing acceptance was presented; the transcript does not capture the vote. The Police Department’s towing bids received September 30 were rejected because the original specifications included unenforceable clauses, and the council voted to solicit new bids. The current provider, Gotchin Suns Towing, agreed to extend service until the rebidding is complete; costs are assigned to the Police Department’s towing yard lease account. Council also approved an amendment allowing qualifying marijuana retail licenses to relocate within the city, subject to city and state approvals and fees to be established by council resolution. The city’s annual exemption under Michigan Public Act 152 for 2027 health benefits was approved after officials said bargaining units had signed letters of understanding.
Other budget-related business included a request for additional biweekly pay from Public Services allocations to train a successor ahead of the department director’s December 31 retirement; the amount is unclear in the transcript. The city manager reported continued water-meter installations and upcoming work on a second pressure-relief valve. Public comment raised concerns about water bills, utility rates, financial controls, and the city’s grant obligations. The consent agenda, including accounts and claims payable, was approved. No vendor was selected for the towing contract at this meeting.
