The Lincoln Park City Council meeting on October 26, 2026, approved acceptance of a FEMA SAFER grant to support hiring up to 10 additional firefighter-paramedics. The grant provides up to approximately $3.2 million in federal funding, with the city’s contribution capped at $1,233,377.15 over the grant period. Council also unanimously authorized the Police Department to reject the amended 2026 towing-services bid process and solicit new bids because the original invitation contained unenforceable clauses. Gotchin Sons Towing agreed to continue the existing service until the new bidding process is complete.
Council unanimously approved an amendment to Chapter 853 allowing city marijuana retail licenses to relocate within Lincoln Park, subject to city and state approvals and zoning requirements; the relocation fee will be set at a future meeting. Other approved spending-related items included temporary additional compensation for Christopher Raone during the Public Services director transition through December 31, 2026, and the city’s healthcare contribution exemption for 2027, which officials said was agreed to by all bargaining units. The city manager reported that ARPA-funded City Hall electrical work and projects at pump stations and a retention basin were nearing completion. Public comments also raised concerns about water billing, infrastructure, grant costs, and city financial controls.
