🚨 Public Safety 🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure Grants & Funding Physical Infrastructure

At its October 12, 2026 meeting, the Anderson City Council approved several funding and purchasing items. Council unanimously approved the 2026 accommodations-tax grant recommendations: 31 projects funded with approximately $284,347, from 32 applications seeking $390,700. It also approved the purchase of a Lenco Bearcat armored police vehicle, supported by a $332,800 state community-investment grant. The vehicle will replace an aging unit and support police response, officer safety, and rescues; its delivery schedule was not yet confirmed. Council also approved two budgeted Public Works equipment purchases: a 2028 Pac-M KB220 knuckle-boom loader truck for $581,455 from Carolina Environmental Systems and a leaf-vacuum truck, for which the transcript gives no price or vendor. Staff said the purchases use a North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association cooperative purchasing contract. The transcript records motions to approve the equipment but does not clearly capture the final vote.

Council unanimously approved appointments and reappointments to the accommodations-tax advisory committee, and ordinances authorizing easements across city property for Blue Ridge Electric and Duke Energy Carolinas. It referred two proposed annexation and zoning petitions to the Planning Commission: a 4.96-acre multifamily project proposed for 54 units and a 61.8-acre single-family subdivision proposed for 212 lots. Staff noted that water-service capacity for the latter proposal needs further evaluation. The transcript also notes that one old-business item was continued at the applicant’s request.
