The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council held a work session on October 26, 2026, featuring a presentation of the city’s 2026 community survey by Jason Morado of ETC Institute. The survey, conducted in August using a random sample of 3,000 households, received a little over 13% response and had a reported margin of error of plus or minus 4.9%. Results showed generally high satisfaction with city services; residents identified traffic flow, economic development, street and sidewalk maintenance, public safety, and affordable housing among key priorities. City staff noted the survey is one input to decisions, including during the budget process.
Council members and residents raised questions about representation of renters and apartment residents, geographic response distribution, language access, and survey participation. ETC Institute offered to provide additional cross-tabulations and response-distribution information, and the presenter said multilingual online surveys could be considered in a future survey. The council also approved a motion 5–0 to hold a closed executive session on council-member selection and annual performance evaluations of the city manager and city attorney. No contract award, spending decision, or other procurement activity was identified.
