The City of Hollister held a special City Council meeting on October 26, 2026, including a closed-session conference with labor negotiators. In public comment, city employees, union representatives, and a resident urged the Council to rescind layoff notices scheduled to take effect November 13, citing concerns about the reliability of the financial information behind the layoffs and the effects on essential services. A Public Works utility supervisor also asked the city to review its longstanding emergency-assistance arrangement with Sunnyslope Water, including reimbursement and permit compliance; no Council action on that request was reported.

The Council reported that it unanimously agreed in closed session to rescind the layoff notices, on a motion by Dr. Resendez, seconded by Vice Mayor DeAnda. The Mayor cautioned that the city remains in financial difficulty, said substantial savings and concessions from unions are needed, and noted that layoffs could be reissued if a viable financial plan is not developed. The Council plans to receive weekly updates and continue working with labor representatives and city management. No procurement activity, contract awards, or purchasing decisions were identified.
