Romulus City Council regular meeting, October 26, 2026: Council approved three updated intergovernmental agreements with Van Buren Township, Huron Township, and Garden City for shared animal-shelter services. The mayor said the agreements increase funding to Romulus for providing the services; no amounts were specified. Council also approved Warrant 26-20, authorizing payments totaling $5,619,824. Major listed payments included $712,000 for Court Building capital improvement bonds, $836,625 for Ecorse-related capital improvement bonds, $108,013.95 for the Public Safety Headquarters, and $999,814.75 from the Water and Sewer Fund.
Council postponed action on a proposed temporary moratorium on new mega data-center applications (defined in the proposal as projected electrical demand of one gigawatt or more) until its next meeting so members could review the wording and information. The mayor also invited a neighborhood watch representative to discuss road-repair concerns at a future meeting; no road-repair spending decision was made. The consent agenda, including study-session requests on a residential speed-bump policy and a special assessment district project, was approved.
