At the October 26, 2026 City of Simi Valley City Council meeting, the council unanimously adopted a resolution setting an annual short-term rental permit fee of $755 and maximum violation fines of $1,500, $3,000, and $5,000 for first, second, and subsequent violations. A supplemental resolution corrected errors in the original language. Staff said permits are required by January 1, 2027; council members also requested a future proposal clarifying the appeal process and fee, and asked staff to ensure booking-platform tax remittances do not result in duplicate charges.

The council unanimously approved agreements to transfer the city-owned animal shelter property to Ventura County and acquire the county-owned library property for $1 each, subject to 20-year service commitments and at least $1 million in qualifying improvements by each agency by December 31, 2040. The city also approved a supplemental appropriation of up to $75,000 for transaction costs; acquiring the library would eliminate about $80,000 in annual lease payments. The transfer remains subject to county approval and closing due diligence. Separately, the council discussed a transit-center project expected to go out to bid in January 2027; no contract award was considered, though council members requested a review of design and landscaping before bidding. A developer’s quarterly update projected road and sidewalk replacement work in Runkle Canyon beginning in January 2027, with no city procurement action taken on that work.
