Akron City Council meeting, October 26, 2026: Council advanced several procurement and capital-financing items. Legislation authorizing debt notes included $9 million for street improvements, $41.1 million to retire notes for prior city improvements, $4 million for parks and recreation, $7 million for municipal buildings and facilities, and $2 million for economic-development projects; these items were placed on the consent agenda. A resolution advancing improvements to South Main Street passed 13–0, and an agreement with ODOT for the Talmadge Avenue resurfacing project passed 13–0. Council also placed on the consent agenda contracts without public bidding for Salesforce licensing and implementation with Carahsoft Technology Corporation, replacement of four drinking-water dosing pumps, and operation of emergency homeless shelters by Community Support Services Inc. and Family of Faith Inc. The Salesforce system’s initial 50 licenses were discussed; council members requested that council be included, and the administration said it could consider additional licenses and funding. A long-term drinking-water strategic-planning services item was held for time. The proposed sale of 1852 West Market Street to Jeter Capital Investments LLC was also placed on the consent agenda.
Council approved a $4.75 million note issuance for a court-approved settlement in Green v. City of Akron (identified during discussion as the Jasmere Tucker case) by a 12–1 vote. Public comments raised concerns about small-business assistance and the city’s Flock camera program. A resolution requesting suspension of the camera program pending an independent audit and public report was held for further discussion, so no action on it was taken at this meeting.
