The Hopkinton School Committee meeting on October 29, 2026, reviewed a proposed FY2028 capital plan that members are expected to vote on November 12. The proposed $515,000 town-funded request includes a maintenance vehicle replacement, middle-school stair and flooring work, classroom furniture and equipment, interior painting, a district disaster-recovery host, and a Marathon School stormwater study. The committee also discussed replacing the high school’s aging HVAC system with a geothermal project estimated at $22.4 million before incentives; officials projected a net cost of just under $13 million after a $7.6 million investment tax credit, a $1.3 million Mass Save grant, and estimated operating savings. The project could use authorized but unborrowed Charleswood School debt, subject to town approval. No HVAC contract or vendor award was made, and the project has not yet gone out to bid.
The committee approved reallocating $5,400 in available stipend funds to support nine active high-school clubs and approved a student’s travel to a Business Professionals of America leadership summit in Washington, D.C.; no travel cost was stated. Other discussion covered student safety concerns, adolescent health survey findings, and MCAS results. The capital plan remains proposed pending the scheduled November 12 committee vote.
