The October 21, 2026, Prince William County Public Schools Board meeting included recognition of nine schools receiving Eco-Schools Green Flag designations and six named America’s Healthiest Schools. The board approved its legislative priorities for the 2027 session (8–0) and approved the naming of a new school as Potomac Shores Elementary School (7–1). During discussion, a board member disclosed that an agreement associated with the name would reduce by about $1 million an amount the division otherwise would have to repay; another member clarified that this was not a direct contribution and did not specify the funds’ exact use. No RFPs, competitive bids, vendor selections, or contract awards were identified. The superintendent also reported that a Bel Air Elementary sustainability project reduced energy use by 73% and saves approximately $125,000 annually in utility costs.
The board approved the public meeting consent agenda and acknowledgements, and took closed-session action on employee appointments and releases and the superintendent’s 2026–27 goals. Public comments raised concerns about special-education implementation and records, student restroom access, school calendars, and other student and employee matters. These discussions did not result in a recorded procurement action. The board also received a Safe Schools Advisory Council update covering security staffing and resources.
