The City of University Place’s August 20, 2026 public meeting covered Phase 2 of the 70th Avenue improvements. Public Works Director Jack Eklund and Senior Project Engineer Kyle Marin described planned sidewalks and ADA ramps on the east side of the street, street lighting, crosswalks, a rapid-flashing pedestrian beacon near 22nd Street, and two speed-feedback signs. The project is intended to improve pedestrian accessibility and safety; on-street parking will no longer be available along the affected section. Driveway access and transit service are expected to continue during construction, with temporary localized disruptions and traffic control as needed.

The city expects to solicit bids in roughly one to one-and-a-half months after the meeting, around late September or early October 2026; no contract award, vendor, or project cost was identified. Construction was anticipated to begin around November and take about six months. Officials noted that street-lighting equipment may take more than six months to arrive, potentially causing a pause in work. Typical work hours were described as approximately 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with some flexibility under the contract.
