The City of Ypsilanti YPAC meeting on October 22, 2026, approved the prior meeting minutes and received the police department’s monthly report. The report covered crime and traffic statistics, including seven department vacancies, four officers in field training or background investigation, and one recruit beginning the academy. Commissioners discussed crash data at the Hamilton and Washtenaw intersection, where reported crashes remain elevated, and requested additional data to assess whether the bollards installed in May are having an effect; they expect to revisit the issue when a full year of data is available. No procurement activity, contract awards, or spending decisions were identified.
The commission also discussed police complaint oversight and access to complaint and investigative information. Members reported filing FOIA requests for complaint records and for policies concerning Guardian handling and court-order verification. A proposal to consider holding meetings every other month in 2027 was raised for further discussion, including pros and cons, with the schedule to be revisited in December. The 2026 report was not ready for review and is expected to be circulated by email.
